Butterfly Hatching

At Easter we got a butterfly habitat.  It is a big cage with netting for walls.  We ordered some Painted Lady caterpillars and they were delivered by mail.

This is how they looked when we first got them.  They started very small.

Here they are getting ready to turn into chrysalis.

Here they are in their chrysalis.

The butterflies are hanging around and drying their wings.  There is some butterfly poop on the white cover, which is from their last meal as caterpillars.  You can also see some of the empty chrysalis.   We are going to feed them some sugar water and then let them go before our trip to Colorado.
